Cultural Resources Specialist

We have an immediate need for Cultural Resources Specialist at all levels, preferably applicants who are a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or have qualifications that meet the requirements to become an RPA.

The preferred applicant is responsible for technical direction and cultural resource management support to meet a myriad of client and project needs. Serves as a key team member managing cultural resources tasks, leading and supporting cultural resource surveys, impacts analysis, Phase II evaluations and Phase III data recovery excavations. Shows extensive experience in conducting cultural resources field work and the analysis and preparation of cultural resources technical documentation supporting CEQA/NEPA documents, AB 52 consultation, SB 18 Consultation, and Section 106 consultation. Familiarity with cultural resources data collection procedures, interpretation, analysis, and document preparation. Must have knowledge of the history and prehistory of southern California, understand laboratory analysis procedures, and be able to supervise and mentor staff in field tasks, desktop tasks, and laboratory procedures.

Demonstrates strong technical skills and expertise in a particular technical area within the cultural discipline. Demonstrates initiative, independent thinking, good problem-solving skills, and excellent field skills. Possesses strong leadership skills, ability to work independently and as a team member, and exemplary work habits, especially related to safety, common sense, punctuality, and adaptability. Demonstrates excellent organization and communication skills and experience managing multiple staff on projects. Demonstrates strong relationships with clients and confidence in consulting with agencies and regulators. Demonstrates strong and accurate writing skills, including experience writing environmental sections of CEQA and NEPA documents. Ability to provide guidance of relevant environmental statutes and regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA, Section 106, AB 52, SB 18, etc). Demonstrates experience in conducting surveys, Phase II and III excavations, and construction monitoring for cultural resources. Can hold permits for archaeological field studies from BLM, California State Parks, U.S. Forest Service and other permitting agencies. Demonstrates a commitment to safety and promote safe behavior. Provides positive and enthusiastic leadership/mentoring for younger staff.

Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree in Archaeology/Historic Preservation/Architectural History or closely related field required. Approximately 5 -10 years of experience in technical disciplines with at least 3 years local experience and 2 years of demonstrated ability to perform in technical lead role. Professional membership participation preferred. RPA or qualifications that meet requirements to become a RPA.

The position is full-time position with benefits. This work will be done in the office with field visits, as needed, to manage projects.
